Memos
Memos are the soul of MEMO. They're the personal details that transform a contact list into actual relationships — the things you know about someone that a spreadsheet could never capture.
"Loves oat milk lattes." "Kids: Emma (8) and Jack (5)." "Training for her first half marathon." "His mom just moved in with them."
These aren't tasks. They're not reminders. They're timeless facts about the people in your life — captured so you never forget.
What Memos Are (And Aren't)
Memos ARE:
- Personal details: hobbies, family, preferences, stories
- Timeless facts that don't expire
- Your private notes (no one else sees them)
- The context that makes your next conversation meaningful
Memos are NOT:
- Activity logs ("Called Sarah on Tuesday")
- To-do items ("Follow up about listing")
- Time-sensitive updates ("Just had a baby" — that's a memo; "Baby is 3 weeks old" — that'll be outdated soon)
MEMO automatically distinguishes between memos and log entries. When you log a call or meeting, that goes in your interaction timeline. When you capture a personal detail, that's a memo — and it shows up differently in the app.
The Quick Draw
The floating button in the bottom corner is your Quick Draw — a fast way to capture a memo the moment you think of it.
How it works:
Step 1: Capture Tap the button. A simple prompt appears: "What's on your mind?"
Type whatever you just learned or remembered. Don't overthink it. Even a few words work.
Step 2: Tag Select which contact(s) this memo belongs to. You can attach the same memo to multiple people if it applies to several.
Step 3: Done Tap save. The memo is stored on that person's profile and starts appearing in your Sphere.
When to Quick Draw:
- Right after a phone call, while details are fresh
- When you remember something random about someone
- After a coffee meeting or lunch
- When someone mentions something about a mutual contact
- Anytime you think "I should remember this"
The best memo is the one you actually write. Don't wait for the "perfect" detail — capture the small stuff.
Where Memos Appear
Memos show up in three places:
1. The Contact Card (Context Line)
When you scroll through your Sphere, each person's card shows a single line of context below their name. This rotates through their memos — a different one each time you look.
Sarah Chen "Loves hiking with her dog Biscuit"
This "context shuffle" keeps your Sphere feeling alive. You're not seeing the same static info every time — you're being reminded of different facets of each person.
2. The Profile (Memos Tab)
Open someone's profile and tap the Memos tab to see everything you've captured about them. All their memos in one place, with the option to edit or delete.
3. Daily Deal Cards
When you play The Daily Deal in The Stack, some cards prompt you to write a memo. Your responses are saved just like Quick Draw memos.
Pinning a Memo
If there's one memo you always want to see on someone's card — their most important detail — you can pin it.
How to pin:
- Open the contact's profile
- Go to the Memos tab
- Tap the pin icon next to any memo
What pinning does:
- That memo always appears on their card in your Sphere
- It overrides the normal rotation
- Only one memo can be pinned per person (pinning a new one unpins the old)
When to pin:
- Their most defining characteristic
- Something you always want to remember before reaching out
- A detail that helps you connect instantly
Not every contact needs a pinned memo. It's there when you want it.
Tips for Great Memos
Be specific. "Has kids" is okay. "Kids: Emma (8) and Jack (5)" is better. "Emma plays soccer, Jack is obsessed with dinosaurs" is gold.
Capture preferences. Coffee order. Favorite restaurant. Preferred communication style. Sports teams. These small details make future conversations easier.
Note stories. "Her grandmother taught her to bake." "He proposed at the Grand Canyon." Stories are memorable and make great conversation starters.
Include context. "Met at the Johnson closing" helps you remember how you know someone. "Referred by Mike Thompson" tracks your network connections.
Update when things change. Got married. Had a baby. Changed jobs. Moved cities. Major life changes are worth a new memo.
Don't be creepy. Memos are for genuine connection, not surveillance. If you wouldn't mention it in conversation, don't write it down.
Memos vs. Interaction Logs
MEMO tracks two different things:
| Memos | Interaction Logs | |
|---|---|---|
| What | Personal details, facts | Activity records |
| Examples | "Loves golf" | "Called on Dec 15" |
| Where they show | Contact cards, Memos tab | Interaction Timeline |
| Time-sensitive? | No — timeless facts | Yes — dated activities |
| How to create | Quick Draw or Daily Deal | Log Interaction button |
Both are valuable. Logs help you track when you connected. Memos help you remember who you're connecting with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I edit a memo after I write it? Yes. Open the contact's profile, go to Memos, and tap any memo to edit or delete it.
Q: Is there a limit to how many memos I can write? No limit. Write as many as you want.
Q: Can I attach one memo to multiple people? Yes. During the Tag step, select everyone it applies to. Great for shared details like "Both attended UT Austin" or "Met at the Johnson closing."
Q: Do memos sync across devices? Yes. Your memos are stored securely and sync everywhere you use MEMO.
Q: Can anyone else see my memos? No. Memos are completely private. They're your personal notes.
Q: What's the difference between memos and the Notes field? The Notes field on a profile is one large text area (older style). Memos are individual, taggable, pinnable entries. Both work — memos are just more flexible.
Q: Why do some things I write not show up on cards? If you write something that looks like an activity log ("Called about the listing"), MEMO treats it as a log entry, not a memo. Log entries don't appear in the card context rotation.
Summary
| Concept | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Memo | A personal detail about someone — timeless, not time-bound |
| Quick Draw | The floating button to capture memos instantly |
| Context Shuffle | Memos rotate on contact cards to keep your Sphere fresh |
| Pinned Memo | Lock one memo to always show on a contact's card |
| Log Entry | Activity record (calls, texts) — different from memos |
Memos are what make MEMO more than a contact list. Every detail you capture makes your next conversation warmer, your relationships deeper, and your network more human. Start small. Capture often. The details compound.
